Privacy Policy

Last updated 4 August 2026. This policy is maintained by Lawyers for AI Safety and describes how we handle information submitted through this website.

1. Who we are

Lawyers for AI Safety is an independent, non-partisan initiative that educates, mobilises and connects legal professionals working on AI safety and governance. We act as the controller for the information described below. You can reach us at contact@lawyersforaisafety.org.

2. What the intake form collects and why

The legal talent intake form is the only place on this site where we ask you for personal information. All fields are provided voluntarily by you.

We do not ask for, and request that you do not submit, confidential client information, privileged material, or any special-category data such as health, religious or political information.

3. How we use your information

  • To respond to your submission and discuss ways you can contribute.
  • To maintain an internal directory of legal professionals in the network, organised by jurisdiction and area of interest.
  • To send occasional updates about our research, education programmes and opportunities to contribute. Every message includes an unsubscribe option.
  • To produce aggregate, non-identifying statistics — for example, the number of jurisdictions represented.

We do not sell your information, rent it, or use it for advertising or automated decision-making.

4. Who can access it

Access is limited to the members of the Lawyers for AI Safety network team who administer the intake process. We share information with third parties only where it is necessary to operate the site and our correspondence — for example our website hosting and email providers, acting on our instructions — or where we are legally required to do so. We do not disclose your details to other network members, partner organisations, or grantmakers without asking you first.

5. Data retention

We keep information only as long as it serves the purpose you gave it for, according to the following schedule:

  • Active network records — retained for as long as you remain part of the network, and reviewed every 24 months. If you have not responded to our correspondence for 24 consecutive months, we treat the record as inactive and delete it.
  • Unsuccessful or withdrawn submissions — deleted within 12 months of our last exchange with you.
  • Email correspondence — deleted within 24 months, unless a longer period is needed to resolve a dispute or meet a legal obligation.
  • Aggregate statistics — retained indefinitely in a form that cannot identify you.

6. Deletion and access requests

You can ask us at any time to give you a copy of your information, correct it, restrict how we use it, or delete it entirely. You do not need to give a reason, and there is no charge.

  1. Step 01 — Send the request

Email contact@lawyersforaisafety.org with the subject line “Data request”. Tell us what you would like us to do — access, correction, restriction, or deletion.

  2. Step 02 — Confirm your identity

Please write from the email address you used in the intake form. If that is not possible, we will ask you one or two questions to confirm the record is yours. We do not ask for identity documents.

  3. Step 03 — Acknowledgement within 5 working days

We confirm receipt and tell you if we need anything further.

  4. Step 04 — Completion within 30 days

We action the request within 30 days of verifying it and write to confirm what was done. Deletion removes your record from our network directory and mailing list, and from routine backups within a further 30 days. If a request is unusually complex we will explain the delay and the new timescale.

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority. We would welcome the chance to resolve the matter with you first.

7. Cookies and international transfers

This site does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Your light or dark theme preference is stored locally in your own browser and is never sent to us. Because our team and service providers operate internationally, your information may be processed outside your own country; where that happens we rely on appropriate safeguards with those providers.

8. Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle intake information, we will update this page and revise the date above. Material changes affecting people already in the network will be notified by email.
